A technical seminar on refrigerant substitution and energy efficiency in the room air conditioner industry was held in Ningbo on October 29, 2026. Discussions covered policies governing hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), the application and commercialization of R290 refrigerant, and technologies for improving air conditioner efficiency.
The meeting sought to build consensus on lower-carbon refrigerant alternatives and promote the use of R290 in room air conditioners. It took place as R290 air conditioner production capacity and market adoption in China enter a critical development period.

The seminar brought refrigerant substitution and energy efficiency into the same discussion, highlighting the need to consider both as R290 applications move toward wider commercialization. For manufacturers, progress in applying the refrigerant and improving efficiency may need to advance together as products move from technical development into production and the market.
The discussion points to an industry focus on deployment, but it does not establish how quickly adoption will expand or what changes will follow. Developments in R290 production capacity, market applications and relevant HFC policies will be important to watch.
